Okay, today is the day I make my little niece's Princess Castle Cake. My sister had me buy all the disney castle pieces to go along with it. I hope I'm able to pull it off!! Last night my sister asked me to do a cake for her daughter because It's actually her B-day today and she wanted to share it with her classmates. I wish I could post up a picture of the cake. Whenever I finally get my computer fixed I'll update this post with the picture. And I'll finally be able to post the pic of my nephew's cake. It was so cool.
I'm not a great decorator mind you, and I suck at frosting cakes, but I'm not actually that bad. With a little more practice I could be pretty damn good, but it's just a hobby after all. Plus it would seriously cut into my gaming time and I can't have that.
Okay, so last night I was nervous about the cake because I was using buttercream frosting. This stuff can be tricky to work with if your not used to it. It will either be too stiff or too runny. Both problems can be easily remedied with a little milk or some more sugar, but not if you don't know what your doing in the first place. Even over whipping it can mess things up. Frosting the cake is no cake walk either. If you'll pardon the pun. And since it's not my strong suit I can tend to get a little nervous.
I don't know if my sister will be asking me to decorate another cake for her. I don't think she understands what I have to go through to pull it off. I don't like doing something If I can't do it well and the process it takes to get what I want can be a little intimidating to someone. She thinks it's something you should have fun with. I agree, but I can't have fun if I don't do it right. I didn't do it right...
This started to go wrong the minute I poured the cake mix into the pans. I forgot to dust the pans. This is a problem because the bread will stick to the pan and you'll end up with bits and pieces of cake all over the place. Well, once it was done cooking i put the bits back in their place and stopped freaking out. I pulled the whole thing off by turning the cake upside down so the broken side would be on the bottom.
It all actually turned out well despite that one thing. Working with buttercream wasn't as bad as I thought though It actually took me about 4 lbs of powdered sugar to do one 2 layer 8" round cake. That's a lot of sugar!
I was hoping I would get the chance to jump online for a little Halo carnage, but it was not to be. I didn't even get to do all the baking I ment to do. *sigh* The things I do for my beloved family.
